Starting off her high school career, Herrera earned All District honors as a freshman and sophomore; however, her junior year fell short of expectations, and finding the cause for this downfall took all but too long and the season was too far gone by that point.

Senior, Valdez set to run track, cross country for Texas Wesleyan

Surrounded by family, friends, and teammates, senior Alexa Valdez signed the dotted line to run track for Texas Wesleyan University. Valdez, a dual athlete in soccer and track, was hesitant about playing sports in college, until she was presented with an opportunity.

Softball takes District, falls short in playoffs

The varsity softball team had two goals for the season. First, they wanted to take the district title, and second, they wanted to go farther than any team before them.

As the saying goes, you win some and you lose some.

The team, which consists of mostly underclassmen, took the title, However, they didn’t go past the first round in playoffs, stopped by Odessa Permian on April 30 and May 1.

Freshman tennis player makes regionals

Freshman Lindsay Osborn was the school’s only tennis player to earn a regional qualifying spot this April. She was 4 and 1 at the district tournament, taking out Montwood and a former regional qualifier from El Dorado for the regionals spot. Osborn traveled to Lubbock to represent the school at the regional tournament in girl’s singles.

Girls’ varsity track advances 10 athletes to regional competition

With a strong second place finish at the Montwood High School Track and Field Invitational, expectations were high for the girls in the District Track Meet held at Coronado. Despite these expectations, the team finished 4th place in district with a total of 97 points. Though the team was unable to qualify for regionals, coach Daniel Rosales explains that the overall experience is one that will not soon be forgotten.

Poised for playoffs

As the baseball season comes to a close, the boys are looking to continue their playoff run, and moreover, hoping to reach the Final Four in Austin this summer. Finishing second in the district behind Americas, the Cougars had a district record of 13-3 and an overall record of 24-7.

Varsity boys track team claims district title, prepares for regional meet

The varsity boys’ track team are district champions for the third consecutive time after the team won the District 1-5A Track and Field Championships at Coronado High School. The team tied with Eastwood with a score of 133 points, while Montwood finished in third pace with 90 points. With this meet being the qualifications for regionals on Sat. April 31, senior Victor Mendez explains what the motivation was going into the meet.
