Nina Herrera can be described as the little engine that could.
Starting off her high school career, Herrera earned All District honors as a freshman and sophomore; however, her junior year fell short of expectations, and finding the cause for this downfall took all but too long and the season was too far gone by that point.

The varsity softball team had two goals for the season. First, they wanted to take the district title, and second, they wanted to go farther than any team before them.
As the saying goes, you win some and you lose some.
The team, which consists of mostly underclassmen, took the title, However, they didn’t go past the first round in playoffs, stopped by Odessa Permian on April 30 and May 1.

Freshman Lindsay Osborn was the school’s only tennis player to earn a regional qualifying spot this April. She was 4 and 1 at the district tournament, taking out Montwood and a former regional qualifier from El Dorado for the regionals spot. Osborn traveled to Lubbock to represent the school at the regional tournament in girl’s singles.

With a strong second place finish at the Montwood High School Track and Field Invitational, expectations were high for the girls in the District Track Meet held at Coronado. Despite these expectations, the team finished 4th place in district with a total of 97 points. Though the team was unable to qualify for regionals, coach Daniel Rosales explains that the overall experience is one that will not soon be forgotten.

The varsity boys’ track team are district champions for the third consecutive time after the team won the District 1-5A Track and Field Championships at Coronado High School. The team tied with Eastwood with a score of 133 points, while Montwood finished in third pace with 90 points. With this meet being the qualifications for regionals on Sat. April 31, senior Victor Mendez explains what the motivation was going into the meet.
