Cougars Cling to Remaining Playoff Hopes
story by Ian Ekery
Tonight the varsity boys basketball team will take on the first place Aztecs from El Dorado. Last time these two met, the Cougars won 38-35 on a half court buzzer beater by Drew Garza. However, the Cougars have recently seen their playoff hopes slipping away as they were once in a four-way tie for second place and even getting a taste of sole possession of first place. Since then, they have lost three of their last four games; being victimized by a buzzer beater against Eastwood, blowing a 12-point lead to lose by five to Hanks, and losing grip on an eight-point lead in the last 90 seconds to go on to lose in overtime at Montwood. The Cougars are currently fifth in district with an 8-5 record and in order to still have a chance of being one of the district’s four teams to make playoffs, they must win their three remaining games, including El Dorado tonight, then Coronado and finally the number two Americas Trailblazers the next two Tuesdays.
